Between October 10th and December 1st 2011, interviewers from the Central Bureau for Statistics (CBS) will be on the road visiting businesses as part of the business census (BC) 2011. During the week of October 10th the census will be launched on St.Eustatius, followed on week later by Saba and yet another week later by Bonaire.
To generate good economic statistics of the Caribbean Netherlands, the CBS needs the most accurate and complete business register possible. The maintenance of this register is the responsibility of the Chamber of Commerce (CoC). Businesses in the Caribbean Netherlands must register at the Chamber of Commerce.
Due to the common interest of an up to date register, the CoC and the CBS have decided to work together in conducting the business census in the Caribbean Netherlands. The primary purpose of the business census is to update the commercial registers. For efficiency purposes the CBS uses the opportunity to conduct an economic survey and the CoC asks the business community what the CoC can do for them.
The CBS will use the updated commercial register now and in the future to comply with the statistical obligations regarding the Caribbean Netherlands. The current economic survey aims to immediately give an impression of the current economic development on the different islands.
The most important results will published at the beginning of 2012.
In order to map these and other important business data, the CBS asks for the cooperation of all businesses. The CBS is required by law to handle all collected data in a strictly confidential manner. Each interviewer is required to identify himself at the time of the visit, so that everyone may rest assured that the interview is conducted by the CBS.
The CBS thanks all businesses in advance for their cooperation.
