St Maarten 2011: Read to me

The Philipsburg Jubilee Library in close collaboration with Ennia, Sifma, and the White and Yellow cross Foundation presents our annual book start campaign, "Read to Me", for babies and toddlers the theme for this year is "Sharing is caring".

The "Read to me" campaign will be held from Saturday 3rd to Friday 9th of September 2011. During the "Read to me" campaign parents and caregivers of children less than five years are encouraged to introduce their children to the joy of books.

The main campaign activities are educational workshops and fun events during which parents will receive the necessary information to engage in more reading activities with their baby or toddler.

Special ‘Read to me ‘offer for babies and toddlers @your Library!!

As of September 3rd all parents who register their baby or toddler at the library will get a surprise bag full of gifts! That was sponsor to us by ENNIA Insurances and Manrique Capriles &Sons. As an additional offer between September 3rd and April 9th parents who register their baby or toddler will get a library card free of charge. Only a refundable deposit of NAF 25, – will have to be paid.

 

Open House

Saturday 3rd September 2011 will be open house of Fun, fun, fun and of course information. Ennia Insurances, Collective Prevention Services, SIFMA, will be present to give the importance of insuring your child’s future, vaccinating against diseases, and the importance of reading to your little ones.

Besides all the information the clown will be present, the bouncy castle, and musical entertainment. Face painting, food and drinks will be on sale.

 

Reading workshop: 6th September 2011

On Tuesday 6th September 2011 the PJ Library organizes an educational and exciting reading workshop between 6.30 pm and 8.00 pm. During the workshop parents will learn how to read to their babies and toddlers. Patricia Maier of the University of St Martin will be presenting the workshop and Edith Peters will do the storytelling.

Movement and Dance with your babies and toddlers 7th September 2011

On Wednesday 7th September 2011 from 6pm to 7pm Zoya Hyman will dance with the babies. She is a teacher at Motion Dance Theater and also the Choreographer of our very own Musical production" Camp Rock St. Maarten". Movement and dance plays a bigger role in a child’s development; it helps increase memory, language, emotion etc… did you know when language is combined with movement learning increases 90%.

Pajama Bedtime story for Babies and Toddlers

Children come dressed in their best pajamas for a fun reading activity. It will be a fun filled evening on Friday 9th of September closing off the babies and toddlers campaign for 2011. N.C. Wathey Group has donated one of their many mascots. So just maybe Sponge Bob Square pants will make his appearance

Admittance is free.

Our Read to Me program is especially designed to help parents make the most out of their children’s first exposure to books reading and language. We are encouraging parents to register their babies at the library. Membership for babies/toddlers is free of charge, just walk with a passport size picture of the child.
