TelEm Group began registering 3G mobile subscribers on the company’s new 3G network starting midnight Friday.

The company’s mobile subscribers are being asked to inspect their handsets to verify whether the handset had made an automatic connection to the 3G network.

Mobile customers who remain connected to TelCell’s 2G (EDGE) network may have the option of "pushing" their handset onto the 3G network manually. (Please consult your handset manual for more information)

The 3G mobile registration is an important phase of TelEm Group’s migration from its legacy 2G mobile network to a brand new 3G mobile network that will offer faster data speeds and additional features.

"We will be cutting over to the 3G network on Sunday, but before that we are making it possible for all mobile customers with compatible handsets to be registered on the new network," said Chief Technical Officer (CTO) Mr. Eldert Louisa.

Mr. Louisa said once the cutover is completed, the company will be further testing and tweaking the 3G network to ensure it operates optimally.

"The only difference the customer will experience at the early stage is a notification on their handset that they are operating on the 2G (EDGE) or 3G network," continued Mr. Louisa.

He said in order to take advantage of the full experience of 3G and the additional features that 3G provides, customers can take up one of the several data/voice packages that are being offered.
