This was announced by the Minister of Education, Marja van Bijsterveldt, just before the school vacation. She explained this to the Commissioners of Education on the islands in a video conference on July 1st and in a letter to the schools.

Clarity

The schools for Primary Education (formerly Foundation Based Education) will in any case receive 10% more money. The schools for Secondary Education can also receive more money if they provide a clear overview of their income and expenditure. The Minister emphasized during the video conference that all schools in Caribbean Netherlands must provide more clarity about their finances.

Quality

During her working visit in March this year the Minister received a clear message from the schools. School boards said that they needed more money to be able to improve the quality of education. The Minister recognizes this. Schools are now working on a school improvement plan. Based on these plans the Minister will decide for what schools will receive extra money.
