Bridgetown, Barbados – The Combined Campuses & Colleges are celebrating an excellent season in the West Indies Cricket Board Regional 4 Day Tournament. The league portion of the season ended on Monday, with the Barbados-based team topping the table with 57 points from seven matches.
They finished fivE points ahead of Trinidad and Tobago (52), while Jamaica and England Lions were joint third on 51 points. The other points were: Windward Islands (41), Barbados (27), Leeward Islands (19) and Guyana (16).
Speaking after his team’s triumph, CCC captain Omar Phillips said it was a "total team effort" and everyone deserved recognition their contribution "in creating history for CCC".
"This has been a fantastic season for us and an excellent effort by all the players. We are very happy to lead this competition, especially playing against the traditional strong teams. We all had one common goal and we all worked towards that goal. This is a really good feeling for the team. This is a great achievement for our organization," said the left-handed opening batsman.
"Throughout the season we got performances from all the players and that showed the total team effort that we always speak about. It was never a ‘one-man show’. Every man contributed and we all deserve a share in this success."
Phillips added: "We had some excellent support from all the members of the management team as well as the other persons around the team who all make a tremendous contribution. At the start of the season we set certain goals and we managed to achieve most of them. We also set certain standards and we maintained those standards."
CCC have qualified for the semi-finals and will play Windward Islands from April 1 to 4. The other semi-final will be between Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica. The winners of the semis will meet in the grand final from April 8 to 11.
Phillips said his team is eagerly looking forward to the upcoming challenge.
"We have it in us to go all the way and win the overall title. We believe that. What we have to do is play it like we did in the first seven matches – one day at a time and make sure we stick to the basics. We don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves. We will be patient and we will play sensible cricket," Phillips noted.
"We put in a lot of hard work and we will continue to work hard. We know what worked well for us and we will look to maintain that standard. We still have some work to do. We have achieved a major part of what we set out, but there is still something left to achieve. We want to win the semi-final and go on to win the Tournament trophy."
