The WIFOL union continues to be disappointed by the USM board’s behavior toward the union, the representative of the employees.
After USM president Josianne Fleming-Artsen announced in the media that she was retiring at the end of the month, the union requested a meeting with the board for 3:00 on Wednesday to discuss the institution’s future. However, the WIFOL and staff waited until 4:00 p.m. but no one representing the board showed up even though the board’s secretary, Danny Ramchandani, had promised to confirm the meeting with the union after the board had met on Monday. WIFOL tried in vain all day reach the board’s secretary.
The union considers the board’s behavior a blatant disrespect toward the staff and the organization. The union will now ask the government’s mediator to intervene in order to avoid labor unrest at USM.
