The following is the official Police Report on this tragic accident:

Pick-up truck overturns 1 person dies.

On Wednesday June 16th at approximately 12.05 p.m. the Central Police Dispatch received several phone calls informing them of a serious traffic accident that had just taken place on the L.B. Scot road in front of the Shell Select Gas Station in Reward. The callers also stated that the medium size pick-up truck involved in the accident had turned over and that occupants that were sitting at the back were all thrown from the pick-up, several of them being slightly injured and one of them being in serious condition. Immediately several police patrols, Police Traffic Department and Paramedics were sent to the scene. The scene of the accident was immediately closed off by police and all traffic was redirected. The paramedics attended to all victims, involved in the accident after which they were taken to the Sint Maarten Medical Center for further treatment. The victims are all students from the Sint Maarten Academy PSVE. The preliminary investigation done by the traffic dept. indicates, that the driver of the pick-up, a student from the Sint Maarten Vocational Training School, who was driving from South Reward towards Cul-de-Sac, was possibly driving at a high speed and for still unclear reasons lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle hit the side-walk and flipped over throwing the the four occupants from the pick-up, then hitting a car parked on the side of the street and then coming to a stop. While the investigation into the cause of the accident was ongoing, the Police Department received news that the most seriously injured victim by the name Isaac Patrickson, 17 years old had died as a result of his injuries. The investigation by the Police traffic Department is still ongoing to determine exactly the cause of this fatal accident. Sympathy goes out, on behalf of the Police Department, to the family, friends and fellow students of the deceased.
