Premier received many visitors

WILLEMSTAD — Minister-President Emily de Jongh-Elhage of the Netherlands Antilles received several inter-island and international guests this week.

The topics of conversation had varied from constitutional affairs to inter-parliamentary matters and intellectual property.

The St. Maarten Deputy William Marlin (Political Structure, National Alliance) had discussed, amongst others, the dismantlement of the Netherlands Antilles and the separate status of St. Maarten per October 10th 2010. According to reports, these processes are on schedule.
Theo Heyliger, the St. Maarten Deputy for amongst others, Environmental Planning and Management (United People) had also visited De Jongh-Elhage. Heyliger had used the opportunity for this courtesy visit while he was attending a harbor conference on Curaçao. Former State-member Marcel Gumbs and director Mark Mingo of the St. Maarten Harbor Group had accompanied Heyliger.

Aruba
The Premier had an interview with a delegation of the States of Aruba. The Chairman of the Committee Cipres (Committee Interparliamentary Contacts and Relations), Rene Herdé and the registrar of the States, Jacqueline Bastien had accompanied the Aruban States-Chairman Andy Lee. The Chairman of the States of the Netherlands Antilles Pedro Atacho, Chairman Glenn Sulvaran of the Committee National Affairs and Interparliamentary Relations, and registrar Desi Lai-Promes of the States of the Netherlands Antilles had also been present.
The Aruban delegation is on Curaçao these days for a Presidium-consultation with his Antillean colleague in preparation of the bi-partite Parliamentary Consultation Kingdom Relations (POK), which is to take place from June 1st up to and including June 4th on Aruba.

Intellectual property
China is studying the possibility of applying the model, which the Antillean Bureau for Intellectual Property (BEI) uses for the registration of brands, in this Asian country as well. As of Wednesday until Saturday, director Junny Sluis of the BIE and his colleagues will be informing the Chinese on this topic. In this, special attention will be paid to the Protocol of Madrid, which the Antilles subscribe to.
