Commissioner F. Richardson supports Summer Program for youths

On Monday May 17th 2010, a youth summer program entitled 2010 St. Maarten Summer Sports Camps was launched at the Government Administration Building, where Commissioner of Sports Frans Richardson gave his support to this camp, where there will be Basketball, Soccer, and Track & Field.

Commissioner Richardson said that the organizer Emmanuel York came to him to see how they could work together, pool resources, and provide a real good camp for the youths of St. Maarten.

In addition, Commissioner Richardson said that he is in discussions with some professional players who are interested in assisting in some way. So I am looking forward to this camp, he said. I want to thank Mr. Emmanuel for having this camp and in general the work he has done over the years with the young children of St. Maarten. I urge you to take advantage of the camp and register early.

More details were explained by the organizer, Mr. York, who said that the Basketball aspect of the camp will take place at the L. B. Scott Sports Auditorium from 9:00am to 5:00pm.

The Track & Field will take place at the Raoul Illidge Sports Complex.

The Soccer will be held at the Raoul Illidge Sports Complex also from 2:00pm to 6:00pm.

There will be coaches from American high schools and colleges, who will be coordinating and conducting the camps. These coaches will also be recruiting for their respective institutions.

These camps are done in collaboration with the St.Maarten Track & Field Association, St.Maarten Soccer Association, Soualiga Youth Basketball Association, and the St.Maarten Youth Beat Foundation.

Athletes can pick up or drop off a Registration form with any of the above mention organizations. Forms can also be picked up at all Secondary School Gym teachers, the Philipsburg Jubilee Library, Raoul Illidge Sports Complex, and the L. B Scott Sports Auditorium.

On the French side forms can be collected at the Sports & Culture Department.

The Laison officer in the USA who has been instrumental in coordinating the Virginia aspect and recruiting the coaches for the camps are Mary Tisdale-Talbert.
