On Saturday May 8, 2010 French St. Martin Baseball and Softball Association in conjunction with the St. Martin Pony League hosted a baseball tryout with the Manager of the French Baseball Federation, Mr. Sylvain Virey.
The tryouts were conducted during the morning hours on the John Cooper Jose Lake Ball Park and during the afternoon on the Luis Vanterpool Stadium in Marigot. In an exhibition game played during the morning hours the French St. Martin selection defeated the Dutch Side team with a score of 6 – 0 . Pitching for the French St. Martin selection were Miguel Hanson, Gabriel Connor and David van Heyningen. During the progress of the game Mr. Virey was constantly informing the St. Martiners present that he is impressed with the St. Martin selection team. According to Mr. Virey a few players can be placed on the National Team while many St. Martin players could be placed on the 21 and under French selection team. As special guest at the ball park was Mr. Mervin Buperthuy who played ball in France for several years. On Sunday morning the tryouts continued with fielding, batting practice and pitching . On Monday afternoon there will be running 60 yrd and another game is scheduled to take place against the Dutch Side selection.
