All Telephone, Internet Services Back Online Following A.T. Illidge Road Fire

TelEm Group technicians worked long hours over the weekend to reconnect some 400 businesses and homes to the company’s telecommunication network following distribution Cabinet fire early Friday morning.

Investigations are continuing into the cause of the fire in which foul play is suspected.

Reconnections began shortly after 4:00 p.m. Friday afternoon after the gutted cabinet and charred cabled had been removed and re-spliced.

By 10:00 p.m. Friday night the team, which had bee working steadily since 8:00 am Friday morning called it a day, having connected a number of priority properties in the surrounding area.

Manager, Outside Plant, Mr. Anthony Carty said the teams were back at their stations the following day and again on Sunday until the job come 100% completed.

"I want to personally thank the guys for doing some great work in the field," said Mr. Carty.

He said the commitment that was shown in getting customers reconnected was exemplary, noting that TelEm colleagues who had nothing to do with the repairs came along to bring refreshments and keep the spirits of their colleagues high.

"The type of work they technicians were doing in the field is tedious and highly technical and they get full marks for completing the task in record time," added Mr. Carty.
