‘Natalee Holloway dumped in swamp’

ORANJESTAD — Joran van der Sloot dumped Natalee Holloway in a swamp. During an interview with Jaap Amesz, better known as Gouden Kooi-winner Terror Jaap, the main suspect in the disappearance case at any rate had confessed the aforementioned.

The interview supposedly took place mid last year. The Public Prosecutor (OM) on Aruba stated it had been aware of this ‘confession’ from Van der Sloot since August 2009. According to field officer Peter Blanken, television station RTL will possibly broadcast the interview. According to the main suspect, he wanted to ‘clear his conscience’ and ‘finally tell the truth’ with this interview.
The Volkskrant announced that another interview with Van der Sloot is planned for later this week. The producers hope the suspect will possibly want to put all his cards on the table and reveal more details now that his father has passed away. Van der Sloot had recently been in the Netherlands for his father’s funeral. Paul van der Sloot had died of a cardiac arrest during a tennis game at Tierra del Sol on February 10th. The lawyer had been cremated in Arnhem last week.
No new facts
In his most recent confession, Van der Sloot states that Holloway’s body had never been dumped in the sea, as earlier confessed during hidden camera shots from crime journalist Peter R. de Vries. According to the confession, the body of the American teenager had been hidden in a swamp. "This was thoroughly investigated at the time," says OM-spokesperson Ann Angela. "A specialist team from the Netherlands had conducted a physical spore investigation together with the Aruban police corps in September 2009." The investigation, which had lasted approx. 1½ week, had not revealed any new facts.
Endless task
The OM therefore no longer sets great store by the statements of the main suspect. "During the investigation, it became clear that this confession did not agree on several points. If he really wanted to tell the truth, he would have named the exact location" according to field officer Blanken. Moreover, the location which Van der Sloot by his own account had dumped Natalee Holloway had already been investigated in the framework of the investigation. Nevertheless, Blanken states that the ‘swamp indicated by Joran, is too large to meticulously investigate in its entirety. He had only specified the location as a swamp at Noord. "There would be little left of the body in view of the aggressive climate known on Aruba after such a long time. Without an exact location from Van der Sloot, it is an endless task, according to the field officer. "It’s worse than searching for a needle in a haystack."
The reason that the story about the confession has only been revealed now is possibly due to the fact that the Dutch TV-producers had initially not been interested in the program. Images of the interview broadcasted in April 2009 had shown that Van der Sloot had been hooked up to a lie detector. At the time, the producer had expected to complete the program within one month and sell it to a TV-station. Despite the apparent lack of interest for the program, the worldwide media is now diving for the story again. Spokesperson Ann Angela told this newspaper that she had been called from her bed last night by the American media.
There had been several search operations since Holloway’s disappearance in May 2005, for example the most recent one from the American Fred Golba. In March 2009, father Dave Holloway had hired Golba, who is specialized in finding bodies together with his dog Rhino. He had searched the surrounding of the Monserat dam, also known as Tanki Real, to no avail.
