Monument Policy Plan to be presented Thursday; Monument owners and stakeholders invited to attend

On Thursday, December 10 from 5.00pm to 6.00pm a presentation will be made about the Multi Annual Monument Policy Plan 2009 in the A.C. Wathey Legislative Hall at the Government Administration Building.

Monument owners, stakeholders and civil servants are invited to attend the presentation to be given by the Directorate of Programs & Projects.

The Multi Annual Monument Policy Plan 2009 was approved by the Executive Council August 4.

The Executive Council has already designated 22 official monuments which have been entered into the Monument Registry.

Another 23 potential monuments out of a list of 82 will soon be submitted by the VROM Department to the Executive Council for consideration and designation.

In 2001 Government started with the inventory of potential monuments on St. Maarten, and worked on the legal framework (Island Monument Ordinance, 2001 and the ebhams).

In 2002 an inventory of the potential monuments was done and descriptions of 82 potential monuments were made. Government founded the Monument Council and stimulated the establishment of the Monument Preservation Foundation (2001-2002).

In 2003 Pream Consultants/Architects) started with the making of the Multi Annual Monument Policy Plan (Meerjaren Monumenten Beleidsplan, 2009) in cooperation with DROV Curacao and the department of VROM (Spatial Planning and Environment) and the Directorate for Programs and Projects (DPP) on behalf of the Government of St. Maarten.
