Lieutenant Governor Lisa Dindial has advised owner Joel Da Silva Gois to work on the necessary instructions together with the fire brigade and the Department Housing and Environmental Planning (Drov) so that Goisco could still obtain a permit to open the building.
Da Silva Gois said that a thing or two was based on a misunderstanding and that he had not started constructing such a huge building without the necessary permit. He stated that he had submitted an application in 2004.
Dindial confirms the aforementioned. However, the application of 2004 had regarded a much larger building than the currently constructed building, which is approximately one-third of the original plan. As soon as Drov had been informed hereof, Goisco was summoned per letter to stop the building activities and apply for a new construction permit. An application for a new construction permit had been submitted on October 14th, "However, the building activities were continued in the meantime", said Dindial.
The announcement of today’s grand opening drew Drov’s attention again. "This was twelve days after the application for a new construction permit. The Department had also wondered how the opening could be held when the building did not comply with all safety measures determined by the fire brigade. Amongst others, there is still no sprinkler- and fire alarm system. It regards public order and safety" according to Dindial.
Goisco could only open its doors once these matters had been dealt with, and were subsequently approved by the appointed institutes.
