WILLEMSTAD — "I understand Mr. Brinkman’s behavior now that I have comprehended he is an alcoholic. Someone who personally displays aberrant behavior also accuses others thereof."
The Antillean States-Chairman Pedro Atacho said this in response to the report, which indicated that Hero Brinkman – Lower Chamber member for the PVV – has an alcoholic problem. He supposedly had dealt a blow to a barkeeper in Nieuwspoort last Tuesday evening.
More than once, Brinkman said the Antilles and Aruba were a corrupt pack of thieves. He was refused entrance to the Antillean Parliament at the beginning of last year. I now understand why he accuses others of aberrant behavior, and has been calling us a pack of thieves during that entire period. Ill doers are ill deemers. There is nothing I can do but pity him and advise him Alcoholics Anonymous so that he may see things more clearly", says Atacho. During a parliamentary meeting last year on Aruba, Brinkman stole as crystal wine glass with contents according to the States-Chairman. The PVV-member later denied to have committed the theft. "One characteristic of an alcoholic is that he forgets everything when he is under the influence, while a politician should exactly set a good example to others."
