The District Band to Headline at the 2009 SMOYA Awards August 15

The St. Maarten Youth Council Association announces that the 2009 St. Maarten Outstanding Youth Awards (SMOYA) will take place on Saturday August 15, 2009 at the Carl’s Unique Inn Confeence Center.

The annual S.M.O.Y.A. program recognizes and honors young people between the ages of 6 and 21 who demonstrate the best qualities of St. Maarten’s youth. The objective of this program is to encourage young people on St. Maarten to strive for excellence in everything that they do. This year, fifteen young persons will be honoures with SMOYA’s awarded in seven categories: Community, Cultural, Environmental, Music, Personal Improvement, Scientific/Technological Development and Sports.

This year’s SMOYA will feature live entertainment by some of St. Maarten’s finest young performers. Special guests will include Lil Blossom and Lil Roxy, with featured guests, the District Band. The evening promises to be both entertaining and uplifting. Admission is $15 per person, with tickets available at the Rupert I Maynard Youth Community Center and at any van Dorp location. Come out and support our Outstanding Youth.

The St. Maarten Youth Council Association has been hosting the SMOYA Awards since 2004. Past awardees include: Ayana Tyrell, Brittney Watkins, Alexis Williams, Romeo Brown, Emmy Fraenk, Calvin Mardembrough Jr., Jeremy Bary, Kim Verscheuren, Stuart Johnson and Trumane Trotman.
