On Monday afternoon Commissioner of Constitutional Affairs, William Marlin had his first official meeting with Dutch State Secretary Mrs. Ank Bjleveld Schouten, since assuming responsibility for Constitutional Affairs. William Marlin was accompanied by Minister of Constitutional Affairs Roland Duncan and Project Director Mr. Dennis Richardson. It was agreed upon that the meeting will continue on Tuesday afternoon at 4.30.
Commissioner Marlin laid out the plans of the new Executive Council as far Constitutional Affairs are concerned and in particular the realization of Country Status for St. Maarten. He explained te agreement reached with the Central Government last week to establish dependences on St. Maarten to help fast track the setting up of the infrastructure for Country St. Maarten.
Commissioner Marlin also informed the State Secretary of the intention of the government to start as soon as possible with the Ombudsman, the establish the Gaming Control Board, etc.
Marlin said that the meeting was conducted in a very pleasant atmosphere and that he looks forward to the continuation on Tuesday afternoon.
