Letter addressed to Commissioner Heyliger from Mr. Haize

Alleviating the traffic in St. Maarten

Honorable Commissioner,

I , Mr. Willy Haize, the President of the Confederation of St. Maarten b.n.a. the United Front am hereby reminding you that the Ring road project which will alleviate the traffic is long overdue and we do hope that the project will commence as quick as possible to alleviate the traffic going to St.. Peters, Dutch Quarter, French Quarter, Middle Region and frankly all over the island of St. Maarten.

It will create work for the heavy equipment operators, for the trucking companies and for the contractors in general. This is will be good considering the slow economic times we are facing on the island. Of course, indeed it will mean work for the local boys. At the same time it will also eliminate the pollution of the pond which has an unhealthy scent going through the whole area. The crystal sea sand which will be drenched from the Harbor can replace that mud from the pond and also will eliminate that unpleasant scent coming from the mud. If you have sufficient money for the project don’t forget to build a sidewalk and also the possibility of benches for people to relax when they are tired and also to have a beautiful view of Philipsburg. Don’t forget the decoration of coconut trees and fruit trees so that we can drink the coconut water which is alkaline and make coconut oil which is healthy for the heart, lungs and all the organs. This will promote a healthy person and also a healthy St. Maarten. If it is financially possible, we suggest a bicycle lane too, which will be safer for the cyclist in the place of going through the main road and will avoid excessive vehicular traffic.

The reason I am addressing the Ring road Project is because the Statute of the United Confederation of St. Maarten (United Front) clearly states that we must have a say in and participate in all projects. This is accordance to our constitution. I am calling upon all organizations to support this ring road project including Nature Foundation, SHTA, Chamber of Commerce, the Churches, Unions, Federations and all other organizations. This will be a worthy cause for the tourists, the people and in essence everyone on the island of St. Maarten. The United Front hopes to have informed you sufficiently on the above mention and thanking you in advance for the ring road project.

I remain yours truly,
