Civil servants can appeal job offers

Civil Servants who are not pleased with the job proposals they have received within the new placement structure are free to appeal to the relevant committee, according to the commissioner in charge of personnel.

Commissioner Maria Buncamper-Molanus said letters outlining the new functions and salaries had already been sent to some civil servants on Monday and the notification process would continue until all civil servants had received such letters. She said a committee had been established to deal with any appeals launched by civil servants concerning their offers.

"If for any reason any civil servant who has received this proposal for their new placement has any objection, there is a committee which has been established to which they must go and a process they must follow to launch their appeal," Buncamper-Molanus said.

"Thank God it will not be dealt with by any politician, but by the organisation and professional who are responsible for carrying out this task," she said.

She explained that the offers made to the civil servants were based on the assessments of senior members of their departments and the requirements outlined for the new administrative structure.

"I am sure that many people may not be pleased with what they have been offered or what they have been offered may not be what they expected, but at the same time what they have been offered is according to the plans or according to where their superiors said they should be placed," she said.

She said a clear process had been established for the reorganisation of the government apparatus and the new remuneration system, and this information had been provided to Island Government employees. "This process allows for objections and those objections will be dealt with in a formal manner."
