Gebe recently presented a check to Grandmaster of the King Yen Tae Kwon Do School Theo Liu, to cover the registration fee of the St. Maarten participants at the regional tae kwon do competition.

Seventeen young athletes took part in the 15th Puerto Ricoâ??s International Tae Kwon Do Championship "Los Gallitos Olimpicos," that was held recently.

"The regional competition presented an opportunity for St. Maartenâ??s youth to be exposed to competitive sports. The sport of tae kwon do has very positive merits for young and old.

"It is a very old martial art dating as far back as 5000 years. It teaches about respect, integrity, perseverance and self control. I would encourage our nationâ??s youth to strongly consider this sport as the main benefit is only making you a better person for yourself, your family and our community. It is all about self development and we are happy to sponsor such activities that make a considerable impact on our community as well as youth development," William Brooks stated.

During the presentation of the check, Gebe Managing Director William Brooks commended the athletes on their motivation and dedication to the sport. He indicated that Gebe was a proud sponsor of youth and sports programs on the island and he congratulated the athletes on their achievements in Puerto Rico.
