The State of The Economy Address by Commissioner Mrs.Maria Buncamper-Molanus

                                  

The State of the Economy address was held on Thursday, March 17, 2008 , it started at , and was given by Commissioner Maria Buncamper-Molanus, who gave an account of the St. Maarten economy and related issues.

 The speech focused on how the economy is performing, reasons for the dynamics within the economy such as inflation, and government’s (economic) plans of how they plan to mitigate and stimulate the economic development.

 On that night as well, the renewed website of the Sector Economy & Tourism was revealed. The site is more innovative; persons will be able to download applications, submit applications, receive information, and email inquiries. A special feature of the new website, it will have a space reserved for Government to out draft policies, regulation and/or legislation in order for everyone to review and provide input. The website will cover three departments namely, the Department of Economic Policy & Research, the Control, Inspection & Security department (CIB) and the department of Licenses, Permits and Economic Control (VOSEC). The website will also be linked to tourism department.

 The commissioner invited, the public, to attend the evening of the State of the Economy Address (SEA). The guest speaker for that evening was President of the Central Bank of the N.A. Dr. Emsley Tromp, who gave a speech on â??Developmental Challenges in a Small Economy." The location was at the Belair Community Center .
