The Island Territory of St. Maarten has a new acting governor in the person of Mrs. Millicent Angelica Acuna Lopez de Weever.

Mrs. de Weever succeeds Mr. Mathias Voges, who recently resigned from the post, after 17 years of service.

On Tuesday, Mrs. de Weever took the oath of office before the governor of the island territory, Mr. Franklyn Richards, in compliance with article 65 of the island regulations Netherlands Antilles (ERNA).

The appointment of Mrs. de Weever was made by central government decision of Tuesday 26, 2008, No. 1.

The acting governor will temporarily hold office in the absence of the governor of the island territory.

Mrs. de Weever is no newcomer to public office, having served, among others, in the island council of St. Maarten, in the past.
